Horse Trailer/Living Quarters Tour

$

It's no surprise I'm at a horse show this weekend, the odds are horse show or baseball tournament and that's just fine with us. So since I'm with Pookie and we are horse showing-it (as I say) I thought I'd share the view from our living quarters. Give you all a glance of how we roll, as unglamorous as it is, but let's be honest who doesn't like to see how others live...even if it is in a horse trailer. Right?!?!?!

When you open the door this is the view immediately in front of you. Like those fancy blinds, I almost ripped them off trying to fix that damn kink in them! Really!!!!! I want to take a picture and blog the living quarters interior and the blinds go all wonky. Oh well, €%#* happens! We bought the trailer used a little over a year ago and ultimately we'd (Pookie and I) like to paint the interior white but it's hard to do when your residing in it more than your not. The window treatment is actual ribbons Pookie has won (super original, right). Then she wanted a string of lights and she found the battery operated ones at Target and now they add a certain teenage ambience she loves (whatever it's her trailer, I just drive the truck).

There is a certain level of expectation I have for the amount of camping I can do, and horse shows in a trailer IS camping to me. It's nice camping...but for the record I quit Girl Scouts when they told me I was going to have to go back to camp! So in order to make it fun and fluffy I did get a monogram ice bucket, trays, cups, towels...you know the necessities. We have a tv and Apple TV to watch but I always bring my iPad (that's Kristen Gehn, YouTube beauty guru on the iPad in the pic).

I said it was glamorous! The bed is a king size and honestly it is heavenly! The ever so fancy comforter is from the shabby chic line from Target (sorry you can't see in pic). The sheets are Pinehill as well as the euro shams, they are like big fluffy hugs. The bed is hard to get out of its so comfy. We have extra blankets on the end because the air conditioner blows so cold I swear you could hang meat in here, which I LOVE!  The pink table is extra space (we pull out when we need) and the rug is Vera Bradely. I did mention this is Pookies trailer.
Now please step into our kitchen, the blue ribbons are again playing double duty as window treatment and safe storage for said ribbons (blue ribbons = 1st place). Wouldn't white look so nice?

Closer look at our kitchen. Keurig machine because four a.m. isn't possible with out coffee. The little egg shaped thing is a young living oil diffuser (we all have allergies). The pink basket is full of disposables. Hidden in the pantry is a microwave and toaster oven.

The view from the dinning room. You have no idea how much the metal stars, Texas key holder and horseshoes make my eyes burn!!!!

As I sit on the couch (also the dinning chair) this view shows the refrigerator and the wonky door on the right is the potty. The opening leads to the mud room as I call it. There is another door from outside so Pookie can enter down there and change clothes, shower, etc... There is a door but for picture purposes I had to open it. You can see me giving a wave in the mirror.

Closer look at the bedroom. My bags are on the bed and that iron horse thingy above the bed would have been ripped out by now but it's screwed into the trailer. Ugh!!!

The view from the master suite. It's pretty cozy up here.

Now what would a tour be without a peak in the refrigerator.  Fruit (berries, grapes and watermelon), cheese and meat (low carb diet), water and of course ️diet coke. There was nothing in the freezer, in the summer you can sometimes find Popsicles. Since I'm unaware of any low carb Popsicles, empty it is.
It's not fancy and there are some superstar options out there when it comes to horse trailers. I'd be lying if I said I didn't want one...I DO! Who wouldn't, but dang they cost...they cost a TON. Pookies trailer is super clean, comfortable and has all the comforts of home and it's really nice to be on the grounds as your animals.  I'll take our little trailer over hauling back and forth to hotels, it works for us.
The whole enchilada - 35 foot trailer, which can hold three horses (which I did have today) and living quarters, then about another ten feet for the truck. If I can drive down the highway 45 feet long and carrying live animals then ANYONE can!

The secret is being comfortable, don't let the size intimidate you and of course some practice.
Happy trails my friends.

Tikaa

IKEA Nipprig Collection - worth a trip!

We are currently working on revamping my daughter's bedroom (per her request) and I made a little stop (via the web) at IKEA today and was taken back at with the Nipprig Collection. It's kind of awesome, I know ikea has lots of great things but nothing lately has made me want to get in my car and make an hour drive like this.

The Nipprig chair priced great at $49.99, comes in black, natural and my personal favorite - GREEN. I can see all kind of uses, not in my daughter's room but the second this popped up on the screen I forgot about what I was looking for. Put it next to a the table with my Lilly for Target umbrella and cushions...LOVE!!!
The table is $39.00 and as fast as I can type my mind was doing the math = $150 ish and I'm looking a summer set up that will make me happy and leave room for summer fun! The table comes in black/natural or green/natural, one guess at the option I want.

The Nipprig Collection also has inexpensive rugs, shades, baskets, and on and on.
The hooks are a whooping $8.99 dang IKEA how do you do it??!!??!!
The item that made me take my curiosity a click further was the Nipprig Beach Bag at $4.99, I thought for sure it was a gift bag or super tiny  but according to the description and the pics I saw it looks like a legit beach/pool tote and pretty sure I need it my bag lady life.

None of the items are available for purchase online which always makes me scream,"WHY IKEA, WHY????"

None the less, my vehicle could drive to Houston itself so I will make a fun day of it (not that it takes much for me to head to H town).

Have a great week, stay dry (crazy mad weather here).

What's in our Pool/Beach Bag

I teamed up with an adorable woman on Instagram to share What's In My Pool/Beach Bag. You can find my picture on her page (@Southernchicstyle) and hers on my page (@Tikaac).  But let's have look since your here.
This is my big old pool bag that I had made about two years ago. Of course it is monogrammed and no surprise it's accented in green. When I head to the pool or lake my bag becomes the keeper of everyone's things or needs. So sunscreen for everyone's SPF requirements and tanning desires are carried in a clear Vera Bradley cosmetic bag and always stored in my tote. We are kind of pale over here so no way we are hitting the driveway without an SPF of at least 30.
A year or so ago (pretty sure they are still available) I stumbled on the greatest pool towels, the are the navy and white ones pictured and there are four huge towels in that bag. How you are wondering - they are huge microfiber towels! We have two sets and we went from carrying a bag with only towels in it and an additional necessities bag to only one. These towels work!!!
The green and white thingy with my monogram in the right of the picture is my bathing suit buddy, a neoprene mat that you sit on next to the pool. Why you ask,  you don't burn your bottom but more importantly you never have to worry about snagging your pretty swim suit. They roll up to nothing and slip into my bag easy peasy.
Sunglasses are a must, pictured are a pair of Kate Spade aviator style with turquoise and white stripes on the sides. They are fun, I got them on sale on sale so I don't fret if they fall off.
I always take my iPad (in black and white Kate Spade case) to read, watch Netflix or YouTube and let's not forget Instagram. Generally I try to bring a Maydesigns notebook along (not just to the pool but most places), ideas hit, always making a list and the occasional doodle. They are cute, fun and personalized it's a win, win all around.
Most trip to the pool or lake I'm in the Jack Rogers jellies or a pair of Tory Burch ️rubber flip flops, you can get either wet, enough said.
Then there is the snack, for a quick trip I throw a bag of goldfish in (who doesn't like) and move along, but if you follow me on Instagram then you may have seen the snack box we carry around. Gotta eat, right?!?!?! When snacking is a possibility then Wet Ones (individual packets) and Bath & Body pocket bacs are guaranteed.
I alway and I mean always have a small cooler of drinks in my car at all times, no kidding. For extra hydration I throw a bottle of water in the pool bag. I over pack...it's a sickness I can't help it.

Ashley from @Southernchicstyle (on Instagram) keeps it a little more simple. I totally respect that and one day I'll learn the art of simplicity. A cute tote and koozie from Feather Nest Boutique (on Etsy or @FNBinstagram). Feather Nest Boutique really hits it out of the park on all levels of cuteness (my navy gingham shirt with pink monogram is from them). Ashley also carries Tory Burch Miller sandals and aviators, she's got the fashionable pool look down and on point. Her families sunscreen needs are Sun Bum and my fav sunscreen scent, Hawaiian Tropic. It just smells like summer. We all throw a few hair ties in our bag, Texas heat makes its a must.  Ashley's current book of choice is from Sarah Sadler (instagram @sarahsadlerwrites) and looks to be a fun, light and easy poolside read. I'll have to get that one (I'm a big reader..nerd-ish).
I think we are all ready for summer and who doesn't looking in someone's purse, tote...house!
What are your summer must haves???

Thanks for stopping by.

An Evening in San Antonio

I'm a Texas girl, through and through. Born and raised in Houston and currently live in a small Texas town about an hour away from the city that holds my heart (Houston). I grew up in the hustle and bustle of the city, we had cats and once a goose that lived in our backyards for a couple years, I didn't sit on a horse till I got married. Never thought I own horses nor four dogs...yes I said FOUR. Pretty sure I'm going to open the door to a film crew tapping an episode of animal hoarders one day. Not sure why I just mentioned all that but I did.
I love my state, and the cities within it and the history that fills it. We are a state rich in history and full of different cultures, experiences and opportunity.
My second favorite Texas city is of no surprise - San Antonio. Talk about history and culture, it's overflowing with both.
When we were invited to attend an event to celebrate both Texas history and a culture that has helped shaped our state and it was in San Antonio, any guess what the answer was???

The event was the opening of the Los Tejanos exhibit at UTSA cultural history museum.  Friends of ours had generously donated information and artifacts to the exhibit. Specifically to the exhibit dedicated to the oldest working ranch house in Texas History. Our friend is a woman who is committed to Texas history and sharing her knowledge in the history of the land and dwellings that have been in her family for more than two hundred years. It's impressive to say the least and to listen to her is more than interesting. When we were invited weeks ago to this event I knew immediately I wasn't missing it. Her excitement is contagious and who doesn't love that.

Tonight before the official ribbon cutting, there were speeches, applauds, words of wisdom and many thanks past out and then before the first cut...a toast.
Not any kind of toast, but a Texas toast of Tequila and in the cutes little clay Mexican pottery shot glasses, that were also party favors  for all the attendees.
That's the cutest Tequila toast I've ever done!

Our friends and honored guest, who graciously donated to the "Los Tejanos" exhibit.
Part of the exhibit prior to opening. Once opened there was a flood of people everywhere.
This is a replica of the oldest working ranch house in the state of Texas. I've been in the actual home and it's amazing to say the least, plus considering it was build in the 1750's (I believe) it looks phenomenal.

Grandmother and granddaughter sharing a moment of Texas and family history.

And then there we were.
The event was full of rich Texas culture and an abundance of Texas history. It's not everyday you get to be a part of a special moment in the history of your state. I can say it was a special night and we will always feel honored to have been included.
Next week I'll at the Govenors Mansion, I'll take the pictures I can and definitely share after. I love my state.

After the event was over and we were headed to dinner. I had to grab a quick pic of this Prada, it's like the full size version had a baby. I'm a bag lady so it was only natural for me get pic and leave a little drool behind.
We stayed at the Hotel Valencia on the Riverwalk, which is a boutique style hotel, modern in a old, fabulous building and just lovely.

Side note: way to go Houston Rockets, fingers crossed!!!

San Antonio Shopping-Fiesta on Main

After a great night in San Antonio we decided to hit a cute local shop before heading home the next morning. I can not visit San Antonio without stopping by Fiesta on Main. It's a hidden gem (probably not if you living in San Antonio)

As soon as you walk in the colors are screaming at you, in the most delightful way. Walking in Fiesta on Main immediately makes me want to have a party. Who wouldn't want to with all these adorable piñatas.

This place is PACKED, room after room is floor to ceiling. Anything and everything you need (or want) for a Fiesta.

I keep saying I'm going to buy two of these brightly colored paper flower wreaths but I haven't yet. I think they would be so fun for summer.

In case you need floral headbands I know a place...they ship.

Yes, it does seem I have a odd attraction to piñatas - brightly colored, filled with candy and you get to beat the shit out of it...yes PLEASE!!!!

Fiesta on Main has EVERYTHING- Party decorations, piñatas, dishes, decor, pottery, clothing, ART, you can find it here.

Bolts of oil cloth, they have that too.

Huge stacks of serapes, Yep those too!

Wouldn't be Fiesta without a sombrero.

Or huge bunchs of paper flowers.

Not a great pic of me, it was storming most of the day and all around rainy icky weather.  Thanks to Ralph Lauren for the great top and floral pants (I couldn't get a pic of my entire outfit in one pic). I'm loving the ease and yet put together look of this outfit.
Ralph Lauren pants and top and Jack Rogers cork and gold sandals.
The event last night, dinner at Ruth Chris Steak House and trip to Fiesta on Main were all a great little over night get away. Like I've said before, I'll gladly drive to San Antonio.

Have a great weekend.

Prom

It's been a busy week - started off with painting Pookie's bedroom (which took time), had  an overnight trip to San Antonio, and then College Station for a little last minute Prom necessities (Yep, I drove to College Station about 20 minutes after getting home from a 3 hour drive from San Antonio). Then this morning I woke up bright and early (for the record I'm not a early bird...I don't even like birds) threw myself together and drove to Houston to have Pookie's hair and make up done for Prom. These are a few examples of why I keep a small pillow and a cooler full of Diet Coke in my vehicle at all times. I need a nap in between baseball and riding practice, and drink as much caffeine as I can to power through. Not complaining, I love every minute.

Kept it simple today with a denim sheath dress, gold Jack Rogers and a blue and white beaded necklace. It was pony tail and false eyelashes (thanks Kristen for the lashes) kind of morning.

We headed to Houston and went straight to Kristens for fluff and fuss. Once Kristen got the vast majority of Pookie's makeup (only missing lipstick) on, she switched gears to get crackin on her hair...and we forgot the headband. It's Houston, I didn't  panic...twenty minutes later I was back with a new rhinestone headband.

A little touch up after hair.

Doing what most do...text message/snapchat checking in.

I bought out the Kate Spade heart tote today, I kind of adore it and why not. After Pookie's hair and make up we stopped by Zoe's Kitchen and grabbed a quick lunch before driving the hour back home.

Our first stop on the Prom Picture Tour was at The Citadel (historical location, was actually a historical country club). It was slightly windy and amazingly sunny (it's rained here for about a week straight). Pookie wore red heels with her dress but there was no way she was letting me take pictures without getting in her favorite boots.

Oh HEY Tin Haul boots, Pookie needs a new pair! She's about worn these out and even though she has about fourteen pairs in her closet she grabs these - EVERYTIME!!!!

Closer look, this boot company (Tin Haul) I believe makes the bottom of there boots out of the same material as a skateboard. All I know is these boots have held UP!

We took 999 pictures, I love 989 of them...mom struggles. If you've ever tried to take pictures with your child and a dog or cat then multiple that by about twelve hundred pounds and add in the attention span of a three year old and you then have Louie! He's the SWEETEST animal in the Great State of Texas but seriously he could careless about taking pictures. The picture looks posed but Pookie had just grabbed Louie and was giving him the "straighten up" look and talk...it worked for one more picture and then we called it quits. This was stop two on The Prom Picture Tour, it's Louie's home Wichita Ranch (he's loves it there, they love him there and the progress he's made is amazing).

Stop three, yes I said stop three! Stop three was where Pookie's friends wanted to take group pics. I can't show the group, I didn't ask there parents permission and that's that. They did the typical pics, small town, downtown, old building and railroad tracks. Nothing exciting but lots of beautiful pictures and some great group shots.

So the theme is Masquerade, or something like that. When we were shopping weeks ago for earrings we came across this rhinestone mask. Add mask = silly pictures. Silly pictures are always must, but the mask did not go to Prom.

After all the preparations, pictures, limo, etc... Mom needed a cocktail. Friends meet us for dinner and I did slip on the diet and have a cocktail (I drank water after, does that count).

It was a great day and Pookie looked beautiful. I loved watching her transform today, love her horse (with her whole heart), giggling with friends and hugging in her Daddy before leaving.
Another milestone in parenting. I love this child (her brother too).

Have a great Saturday.

Tikaa

Sunday Funday

Prom was yesterday and today I thought we'd take it easy. Then Pookie said, " I have to finish up the English project, it's due tomorrow." Oh CrAP!
She had the vast majority done and was finishing small bits and pieces. Like any good mom I said, "let's go see Pitch Perfect 2." So we did and it was cute but the first one was better, but it was cute and I would say to go see it.
I threw on my new navy gingham monogrammed button up (I ordered two sizes too big, I don't know what I was thinking). It's big (again my fault) but with white jeans and hanging out its A-dOr-aBlE!!!!!

Hello leopard and gold Sperry's, i forgot all about you.

My son snapped this pic and the look on my face was worth cutting my head off. Plus what the heck with picture quality. Oh well, my Kate Spade heart tote looks great in the picture (and I love it). The ️gingham monogram button up is from Feather Nest Boutique on etsy and she has all colors of button up gingham shirts and you can choose your monogram type and color.

After the movie Pookie went back to project details, and I started the dinner prep. I kept it casual and pulled out my rose medallion plates, blue and white bone dishes, bamboo flatware (I really want gold bamboo flatware) and orange and white striped napkins. Every color of the rainbow may have been present.

With yesterday's cocktail, I knew today I had to more careful today so salad for dinner. We tried a bag salad - Sweet Kale mix (the sweet was the dressing which I left out). I added radishes, avocados, limes and we cooked fajita meat to top it off. Nothing fancy. Before dinner prep I took the pictures for tomorrow's blog post of my kitchen. After I was done the judge came home with flowers...well flowers I may have asked for but nonetheless flowers. They will not be seen in tomorrow's post.
Since they are not going to be featured in tomorrow's post, here's a peak tonight. Basic little creamy white spray roses and bright pink carnations.
After dinner was cleaned up and I am about to head to the shower and then watch Game of Thrones, Pookie says,"I need to go to Walmart for my project." Really???!!!??? She ran out of sheet protectors so off to Walmart we went, for one thing.
One thing is never one thing!!!! A little personal tidbit about me: I hate self check out! It is NOT convenient, the screen is always freaking out and telling me "item not in bagging area" and I'm like - YES IT IS!!! And Dear Lord do not buy medication or paint and try to self check out because that's a whole different level of pain in the ass.
Any whooooo, the weekend was lovely.
This week is busy, school programs, Astro baseball game, Governors Mansion, Houston Rockets game, private events...busy but we wouldn't have it any other way.

Hope everyone had a great weekend. See you tomorrow.

Love and Limes,
Tikaa

Our Kitchen - don't get excited

$

I've said it before but I live in my car and my kitchen. Doesn't everyone! Today's post is our kitchen and no it's not the newest and biggest nor is it filled with the best or latest...judge away, I care not! My family doesn't care if our refrigerator is black and eighteen years old, they could careless what's on the floor or that the cabinets are original to the house (built in 1966). They love the food that's made here and the love that flows so the rest is...just a kitchen. I don't have the kind of friends who care either, if they do they can #%*€ off. My friends and family are not basing there love or friendship on hottest and most magazine worthy.  It's our kitchen - have a look.
The house itself is not small but for whatever reason the kitchen is. I have a oddly gigantic dinning room (22x26), so what was the thought process. Let's build a house and give it a huge formal dinning room and family room but a tiny kitchen. I don't understand, obviously they intended to entertain, maybe they didn't intend on feeding anyone. Who knows. I do want to paint in the next four months or so (the judge hasn't been informed yet), four months could be a year...who knows.
As appliances break beyond repair I replace with stainless steel ones but DAMN that refrigerator keeps cranking along! My iPad is usually in then kitchen, for recipes, videos, emails, etc..

There's a close up of each cabinet further down. I do have a lamp next to the sink and a brass pineapple one under the cabinet. There is an old school butcher board that pulls out like a drawer that I use to place hot out of the oven dishes or the nightly plates and flatware.

One big requirement I have out of a kitchen is a window and preferably over the sink. I stand in that stop A TON, the window makes it nicer.
The scallops on the shade are my favorite. I'm not original in that weekly I pick up fresh flowers from the grocery store and have them around the house (especially the kitchen). The Staffordshire dogs on the window are sweet and my mom has collected them for years, they make me think of her.

Yes the floor is blah, but it's tile and clean and could be worse. The island is small and we have an electric cooktop (I'd love gas).

This picture was taken standing in my utility room. The towels are hanging on three seperate towel bars, that I hung a million years ago. It works, it's fun and I love it. The stool are where the children sit for breakfast, hang out, snack, and basic homework. They are slipcovered so clean up is a breeze.

The big black beast of a refrigerator, all of the appliances in my house have been repaired or replaced except the refrigerator. It's also the one thing I want to replace the most. Seems right! The gigantic bulletin board is from Ballard and full of stuff! The typical items of pictures, projects and papers of the children. Obviously it could stand to be weeded through and cleaned up a bit. One day...maybe.
This is the cabinet to the left of the sink. It primarily has all white dishes and my monogrammed white dishes. I have a "plate" thing.

This wonky picture is the cabinet to the left of the white dish cabinet. It is full of vintage Mexican dishes. By full I mean jam packed.

This is the cabinet to the right of the sink. Here is were we keep our glasses (not the Tervis, that cabinet is in the utility room next to the ice maker). Clear seems to be my preferred choice of glass.

To the right of the glass cabinet and directly next to the refrigerator is the silver and Mac-Kenzie Childs cabinet. The two bottom shelves are Mac-Kenzie Childs, the courtly check pattern is a great neutral and mixes amazingly with tons! I love it. The top shelf is silver that I use offen, bowls, candy dishes, and serving options. I can't say which I am drawn to more - plates or silver.

This is the left side of the sink, I'm  right handed but drawn to the left side of the sink. I use this side for everything. Feels so weird to me, but it's how I function. I have never been a one soap next to the sink kind of girl. Probably because I wash my hands an abnormal amount of times, that is not a joke. I have more issues than vogue...this is volumne #1.
Immediately next to the refrigerator is a stash of water, YES that's water. A surplus of pink straws (I always use a straw, I know it's bad...I can't help it, this could be volumne #2).
The cooktop has a cutting board full of cooking necessities. When I need all four burns it slides easily to the left for use.
Last nights dinner dishes and flatware. Bamboo just makes me smile! I kind of love on anything (I have a great set of bamboo serving trays). On my wish list is a set of gold bamboo flatware. One day they will be mine. Probably not one day soon but they will.
Again this is basically me standing in our utility room to take this picture and as you can see from the still present Cinco De Mayo decorations that's the breakfast room straight ahead.
Surplus of paper napkins. Can't pass up a cute package of cocktail napkins. They are fun, inexpensive and make my diet coke a littler fancier.
That's the big kitchen tour, not to exciting. No fancy gadgets or state of the art countertops, appliances or anything  actually. The food that comes out of this tiny space is delicious (insert pat on the back here). My family is more than happy to come when called. One day when the children are grown and they are finished with college...I'll cry and then I'll get a dream kitchen but for now I'll gladly feed my family right here. But the paint has gotta go (wink, wink).

Daily Life

Yesterday I planned to stay home and get some things done...that didn't happen.
I'm going to the Governors Mansion Friday and knew I need to change my nail color (it was white). Off to the nail salon I went, but not before driving my son's class to quick trip.

I tried a new nail salon out (there are a total of four in our town). I was using the same manicurist for over three years...I've moved on. The search continues, but I'm happy with the color.

I posted a picture of our Graze box yesterday .  We tried the Italian herb focaccia from our graze box, it was DELIGHTFUL. To check out graze, go to www.graze.com and use CODE:    TIKAAC7XB
It's healthy, delicious, light and a perfect snack for on the go, home or a lunch box treats, plus there are tons of choices.
During all my running around Tuesday (in the rain), I stopped in a local shop (CK Designs). I need some vinyl monograms for some treats (will make an appearance soon). Any guesses which color vinyl I picked??

Because it stopped raining for like a minute I ran to clean my car, plus I was driving for a field trip the next day. The car parked next to me was questionable, so much so I texted Pollyannapics to let her know what was up. Like SILENTS OF THE LAMBS questionable. Seriously!
Oh dear!!!! I forgot Sara was at the Beauty Parlor (or so we call it). She loves going but loves being picked up. She was not in a mood to smile for the camera. Take my word, she's adorable...model potential.
If you didn't know I have a GIVEAWAY going on with May Books, head over to Instagram (Tikaac) and enter. Posted all the details yesterday, giveaway open till Friday.
When your clean you can sleep on the couch, but only when your clean.
Weight loss challenge is still on and in full swing. I'm down fifteen pounds and GOD BLESS peanut butter. Yummmmmmmm
Ended the day with getting a few notepads made and treats ready for a gift. Plus packing up the car for tomorrow's field trip, you know: diet coke, water, Gatorade and treats (thanks Pollyannapics for pitching in).
Sara had such a big day, rain and storms stress her out and the beauty parlor all in one day. She barely got to Little Einsteins room, hopped on his gigantic pillow pet and was OUT!
Wednesday (today),I volunteered to drive for a classroom field trip to the Houston Muesum of Natural Science and a Houston Astros game. We've been to HMMS a hundred times and even rented out the Muesum for Little Einstein's fifth birthday, obviously we love it. Today was no different, it was great.
It was a school field trip so the seats were not great but the game was. The ASTROS won!!!!!
It's been a full two days.

Happy hump day.
Coming next - make up deets

Make Up - Foundation, Concealers & Powder

$

It's no secret I'm part clown. I love make up and have enough to supply an entire beauty pagent or Ringling Brothers.
With that being said, I get asked here and there what I use.
I thought I'd do a small series on my make up preferences, starting with foundation, concealers, and powders. I'm keeping simple (for me anyway). I don't use everything in the picture all at once, I switch according to what I have planned for the day, time of year and how my skin is feeling.
Currently I am crushing on the following
Foundation
1. Estée Lauder -Double Wear Maxium Coverage (in the dark blue almost navy tube)

2. It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ illumination color correcting illuminating full coverage cream + anti-aging hydrating serum (that's a mouth full). It has an SPF 50, the illumination is some what new, and I like it a lot. I generally purchase It cosmetics at Ulta or online.

3. Hard Candy Glamoflauge, invisible camouflage foundation (it's really new). I've used it four times and I'm kind of loving it! Hard Candy is only available at WalMart, this foundation was seven dollars!

Concealers:
1.Maybelline Fit Me concealer (the long skinny one with a black top, to the far right). It's about $8 and found at any drug store

2. Maybelline Instant Age Rewind (seriously can not leave home without it). I use light and light and medium (depends on if I've self tanned or not). It's under ten bucks and worth the try.

3. MAC pro longwear concealer - it's like the Queen of Concealers. I think it's about $25 which is pricy and the bottle is small 0.30 oz, but it's nice! I feel like it doesn't (as well as the others I mentioned) crease or sit into my fine lines (a.k.a. Winkles). I do set with the Makeup Forever HD powder.

These are the powders in my current rotation and I like them but do not feel like I've found THE POWDER of my dreams. I'm open to suggestions.
Powders:
1. Makeup Forever Professional HD high definition powder: it's finely milled, smooth and colorless. It doesn't look cakey and I like the over all results. I'm about out and will repurchase (on my second one already). It's under thirty dollars I believe and you can get at Sephora.

2. Rimmel London Stay Matte: inexpensive, drugstore and it works! It's easy peasy, and for four buck you can't mess up. I have repurchased several times and will continue.

3. L'Oreal Paris Infallible Pro-Matte 16 hour powder: it's not on the cheaper end of drugstore but it's afforable, I like but not love. It's ok, I can't really complain but it doesn't excite me. The packaging is weird (you have to flip all around to get it the mirror). It comes with a sponge applicator, not a fan of. It's ok.
I need a better drugstore compact powder option, probably going to stick to my OLD school cover girl compact for the purse.

That's the long and short of it, not exciting and I have not ever been the girl to use the same makeup products for years and years. I like options and different coverage and feels during different times of the year.

Next makeup post I'll share primers products I use.

If you have a loose powder or compact you can't live with out please share!!!!

Primers

I wasn't always a believe of primers but it all changed about two years or more ago and I can't go without one now. Like any of my makeup, I switch things up. The one constant I use everyday is the Too Faced Hangiver Rx. It's almost like a light moisturizer, I'm on my second one. It's love.

Primers: (not in any order)
1. Benefit The Porefessional - oil free and translucent, feels silk and glides on the skin. It's nice, not my favorite but I do like it. Available at Sephora and Ulta and runs about $31.00 for .75 fl.oz. I have repurchased once but may not repurchase after this tube and only because I have others I need to use first.

2. Too Faced Hangover RX - Its a replenishing face primer with coconut water, electrolytes, and probiotics. It's really feels like a light moisturizer, and I generally use it everyday. A very light application followed by another primer. You can find Too Faced at sephora and Ulta, it's about $32.00 for 1.35fl.oz  I've repurchased twice and will buy again, soon.

3. Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer - mineral based, water resistant and SPF 15. It glides on the skin, feels wonderful and I really, really, really wanted to hate it because it's definitely for someone with a champagne budget! The tiny .33 fl.oz bottle is $18.00 and 1 fl.oz. is $52.00 and 2 fl.oz is $72.00 See why I wanted it to be a donkey doo? It's not! My little .33 fl.oz. bottle is getting LOW and sadly I will not repurchase, it's just to pricey. But if $$$ is not a worry - BUY it!!

4. L'Oreal Revitalift Miracel Blur OIL FREE - by far my favorite primer. It's found in any drug store, and the best value of all at $24.00 for 1.18 fl.oz.  I haven't heard any talk about this product. I know it works for me. It does smooth the skin and help with the appearance of fine lines. It's light weight and completely clear. I've been throught three tubes, I just repurchased my third. It's a must have.

I mentioned before that I'm part clown or drag queen. I love makeup. I can't wrap my brain around not loving it (for myself anyway). These are only my opinions and based on using each of them throughout the last two plus years. Maybe the input will help you. I'm 44 years old, until the past year I always had normal skin, it's now on the dry side. I'm do have psoriasis (not on my face) and can be sensitive to products (none of the ones I mentioned). I wear make up almost everyday but only touch up if I have an event or function in the evening. Lipstick, gloss and mascara are my favorite products but lately I've been crushing on blushes.
Hope all this helps you find a primer you love. If you use one I didn't mention let me know.

Happy Friday!!!

Gifts, Governor's Mansion and Party Favors

I was recently invited to tour the Governors Mansion to give my input for this years Christmas decorations...I WISH!!!! I kid, but I was honestly invited to the Mansion. I live in Texas, so this means I am heading to Austin.
Today, I'll be hitting the road with a few other fine Texas ladies.
The woman who invited me, is a follower on Instagram and works for the Great State of Texas.
Any whoooooo, I wasn't going empty handed! I made a few monkey notepads for her and bought another one off Etsy. Monogrammed a candle, a pink insulated cup and found a cute tote bag to put it all in. Seems like a fun treat to me.
I wrapped up everything to look fun and fluffy. I'm on a clear paper kick. I think it's the shredded paper inside the clear that gets me. It's cute, I can't help it.
Closer look of the notepads all wrapped up.
I posted this pic on Instagram Thursday night. I was working on a few cups for the ladies who were going with me. I love a party favor, doesn't matter the size of the party.
The finished treat! Monograms, pink, green, stripes, bow and pom poms = cuteness overload. Finger crossed the ladies will agree.

That's just the beginning of our Friday. I'll post more from the day as soon as I can.

Happy Friday.

Friday Fun

Today was a FULL day, full of fun, friends and fancy shopping. It started up heading to Austin and lunching at Searsucker. Lunch was light and refreshing and the atmosphere was neat.
I had the quinoa salad with shrimp, it was  a nice change from all the meat and cheese...you know the low carb thing.
After lunch we headed to the Governors Mansion for our tour and to meet my instagram friend who works for the state, Cammy.

Inside the gates, past security and headed inside.
They have kept the Texas Governor's Mansion as true to form as they can.Original  furniture, incredible paintings and the chandeliers were spectacular.
History was all around us.
There are several mirrors in the Mansion I wouldn't mind hanging in our home.
I know that candle is leaning and I wanted to fix it but I also wanted to see the rest, so hands to myself!
There were two, and beautiful does not do them justice.
Looking UP.
I loved the yellow and green combo in the parlor.
Formal dinning room is a pretty blue and the table could not have shined brighter.
One of the rugs.

My newest obsession! Not sure what the original use was, or what it's called. But I will find out and one day I will have one! It's an insulated container (with lid). Apparently they have used it for ice cream in the past. If you know, help a girl out. Please!!!!!
I'm a native Texas, have been to the Capitol many times and but this was my first time to the Governor's Mansion and I can not thank Cammy enough for inviting me.
After the tour, I couldn't head straight home and Pookie was up for a little stop at the Lilly Pulitzer store. She found a cute pair of shorts and we meet another instagram follower and now friend (@preppositional_phase).

Couldn't make a stop at The Domain in Austin and not go to Neiman Marcus. I wanted to grab a bottle of perfume (check) and take a stroll through MacKenzie-Childs.
Possibly make a stroll through handbags to drool. Valentino is killing me!!!! I love this pink tote.
Hey, MacKenzie-Childs you don't know me, but don't let that stop you from sending this ottoman my way. I love everything about MC, it's cheery, colorful and mixes great with almost anything. I may have a picked up a bowl. It's a collection and an addiction.
Cargo diaries!

Finished up in Austin and we had to haul back for a friend's daughter who was graduating from Kindergarten. She's adorable, and exhausted or not I wasn't missing it.
Isn't that Mexican pot AMAZING!!!! It's in said friends kitchen and it's big, wonderful and looks fabulous.
What's a celebration without a little horse races, especially when you have a house full of horse enthusiast. Those mechanical horses are something!!!
The day was definitely crammed packed. Started on a high note and ended on one to. I really wanted to lay down on the hammock next to Little Einstein but thought I'd not be able to get back up.

Hard to believe it's only Friday. Tomorrow is baseball, Houston Rockets and Event in Houston.

Have a great weekend.

ROCKETS, Shooting and Saturday

It's been a full week, like always and this morning I was kind of spent. Really wanted to say in my pjs and watch Netflix...and I did till about 10 a.m. Then I had to tackle the mess that was my nightstand. What the heck is wrong with me and this nightstand issue. Clean for five minutes, loaded up with crap six minutes later.
I figured I better capture one of the five clean minutes for a "proof of life" photo.
It's a REAL struggle, I mean REAL! I get to bed, unload my purse (apparently onto my nightstand), grab moisturizers and lotions and then leave on my nightstand and it goes on and on. Once that was done (seven minutes later), I placed an online order with Sephora.
The sun safety kit is valued at $155 and it can be yours for $32. I haven't tried the sun safety kit before, but I'm looking forward to getting my hands on this one. We are rather pale over her yet we all have different sunscreen needs. This should be a great start to determining what works best for whom.
Pookie's room is still in progress. Paint is done, new headboard is installed and bedding is 75% done. This is one of the two couches we are leaning toward. The other is all white leather. We like them both, we may be flipping a coin. Her room is large enough for a couch and had one before. I'm pretty sure it's her favorite thing about her room. I think I'd like to do two chairs and a table BUT it's her space.
Saturday evening we had been invited to an event with this lovely lady and dear friend (Betsy). It has been raining for at least two straight weeks, my hair is over the humidity and damp weather. Betsy was being silly (which I adore), her and my daughter love a silly picture.

Before we left, these two (plus one Dad) headed to the Houston Rockets game. Don't worry Little Einstein was picking up his Rockets jersey and cap once inside. Unfornuately they lost, it happens. It was still a super exciting time for the Houston Rockets they haven't made that far in a while and we are all proud of them. The boys had a great time, and for that I am happy. Thanks Cutter for inviting my son, he had the best time.
The event we attended was at the West Side Shooting Club, a private sporting clays club. It's Texas we love our guns and shooting at targets or clays (in this case it's clays). I grew up shooting, sporting clays are just FUN!!!
The tables had these beautiful sunflowers  all over them. The dinner was a Mexican buffet and oh so delicious.
Had to share this one, first diet coke out and it had - share a diet coke with a Friend.

There was a band, fireworks and lights strung everywhere. The entire atmosphere was spot on for the event.

The evening was relaxing and fun, the food was incredible and the people we met were super friendly. Thanks for the invite Betsy.

Sunday is baseball, horses and misc. I may take the blogging day off. Then it's a holiday and the last week of school for one of mine. Woohoo!!!! It's also Pookie's birthday week!!!!!!

Pookie update

Pookie's room is coming along, we've had a TON of rain (for weeks) so furniture still needs to be painted. We are still on the search for curtains and we recently found a bed skirt. It's all coming together. The rug in the picture is not staying there, it's actually for the bathroom. Ugh, I'm so impatient but it's getting there. The lamp base is going to be painted silver (when it stops raining) and the hardware for the nightstand is pink and again waiting on the rain to take a break.

This is Pookie's space and I've had to bite my tongue and sit on my hands, but it's her decision and I'm really trying to be ok it all. To be fair, the he vast majority of her picks and purchases have been great. I'm not in love with the bedding, but she is. There have been a few rugs and curtain fabrics I've loved but got shot down. I have one nightstand (white) and a chest (silver) left to paint and hardware. Not my favorite thing to do but for my children I will gladly paint away.

I snapped a quick this morning. We went shopping yesterday and Pookie found the yellow bench (Target) and the lamps with the precious striped shades (Hobby Lobby). The desk (to the right) was a piece I had in our sunroom and Pookie asked if she could take it over. It's painted silver and I gladly offered to buy her a new desk but she likes the look and honestly so do I. We are still back and forth on a couch and now she's thinking she wants chairs...decisions!  Yes, those are gigantic pillow pets on her bed. Whatever! She's loving the bright and cheer space and she's enjoying the process. It's a win, win.
On our search for goodies for Pookie's room yesterday we made a stop at Charolette's Saddlery for a couple items Pookie needed. Her English gear needed some updates.
This belt was so pretty.
Charolette's Saddlery caters to the English rider. It's always fun to visit one of there locations.

Pookie trying out a new ratcatcher and hunt coat. She's lost thirty pounds since last July! I can't get over her commitment and dedication to her weight lost journey. She's a true inspiration.
After our shopping trip, we managed to get home before the storm hit. Thank goodness too, not only did it rain we had tornado watches/warnings, etc.. I had a alert on phone pop up and say a Tornado was highly possible to take cover immediately. We did, and into the most interior bathroom we went with dogs, drinks and snacks in tow.
After staying there for a while, and after the weather alert passed I had to decompress. It was still storming and lots of thunder and lightening...I took a long shower. After which I put headphones on (to muffle the storm).
The L'Occitaane shower oil and skin oil are wonderful and smell like almonds (I love). They are definitely worth a try.

We are expecting more rain today (although it's sunny at the moment), I'm off to gather end of the school year goodies. I'll be sporting rubber boots and a ponytail for next few days.

Have a great Tuesday.

Tikaa

Random Things About Me

   Random things about me

1. Yes it's my real name, not short or anything or made up.

2. Please, please, please stop telling me that Diet Coke is bad for me. I'm grown, I get it...I'm drinking it anyway!
P.S. - I have an issue with the person (anyone) who thinks I need this opinion from them. Seriously I shut them off the second the words "do you know how bad those are for you" (insert eye rolling here). It's not a cooler full of wine or vodka people it's a diet coke, lighten up or #%^| off.

3. I do not at all like birds (real, flying ones anyway). They fly! I have had one in my hair (could feel wings on my face). I'm not a fan (I'm afraid). I think they sense it, I've had far to many weird bird interactions for them not to know it.

4. Snakes, not a problem...any day over a bird.

5. Favorite color: kelly green, pink second fav. I love color. Least favorite is black, I don't generally wear black clothes (shocker I know). It's just not colorful and wonderful (my opinion)

6. I love bamboo, monograms, cocktail napkins, a pretty tray, family dinners and trying new things.

7. I spend the most of my time in my car. Not because I love it or its a happy space, but out of necessity. Small town livin requires it. Horse trainers and baseball teams down generally live in the tiniest of tiny towns. There are no bakeries here, fabric stores, not a single Target or Hobby Lobby, we don't even have a Chick-Fil-A. We do have a Starbucks  (oddly enough) but it's run down, usually dirty and I've been through the drive through and been told "sorry we are out of cups." I thought I was being Punked, what do you say to that at Starbucks?!?!???

8. If I could get my groceries delivered to my door I'd NEVER go to the grocery store again. I love to cook, don't mind the clean up, but can not stand the grocery store. I know there are services that actually do that for you, they are not available in my town (I know, I've checked). I CAN NOT stand going there. It's a strange hang up about it, and I get panicked and anxious and I want to run out the door the second I walk in, it's right up there with going to the dentist. I have issues, I know! If someone goes with me, it's better but not great. I sound like a freak, whatever.

9. I love to travel, who doesn't. Add water and I'm happier. Throw me on a boat, down right blissful.

10. I have many obsessions and addictions (all legal) but the one I can not shake and has been with me since I was a teen - HANDBAGS. Not any handbags, the worse possible kind, designer, high end luxury bags (new or vintage). I know it's slightly nutty. Only slightly! I can not explain it, I've tried to change it and there is no shaking it. I am drawn to them like a moth to a light. I notice everyone's handbag and not to judge but out of curiosity and frequently out of lust. I'd love my own handbag line (dreaming big) or to be a brand ambassador to one of my favorites. Some people collect jewelry, guns, antiques, cars all kinds of things...it's just a personal interest. I get judged, like HARD CORE, like why are you not giving the money you would spend on a handbag to feed the hungry. I am charitable, again judge away. I'll never make everyone happy but I'll have a gorgeous handbag while being called a #%*|<. I'm ok with it.

11. I love pajamas- enough said

12. If I start watching a series on Netflix or iTunes, I'm useless until done with said series. I try and save those for car rides and vacation.

13. Shaved legs + clean sheets = DELIGHTFUL

14.  Sun over rain. Hot over cold. Water over Mountains. Dress over Pants. Contacts over glasses. Shower over Bath. Cup(with ice) over can (diet coke). Dogs over Cats. Baseball over Football. Lipstick over Gloss (but I love gloss). Airplane over Car. Hotel over Tent. Air Conditioning over window open. Breakfast over lunch (love breakfast food). Real book over iBooks. Valet over self park. Night over day.

15. If there was a way to wrap me up like a burrito before I went to sleep - I'd LOVE THAT!  Weird, I know.

16. Odd numbers (now I have to add one more)

17. My family is my push button. For them I'd do anything.

There's more but I'll save those for another time.

Happy Wednesday.
Love and Limes,

Table Top Thursday- 5/28

Today is the first for Table Top Thursday-Each week I'll feature one or more table tops (place settings) from our week. To get started here are a few from the recent past and toward the end of this post you'll find this weeks feature.
Cinco de Mayo
Our Cinco De Mayo table, you have seen in the Cinco De Mayo post I did. Here's another quick flashback. MacKenzie-Childs dinner plates in Courtly Check and  tumblers to match. The salad plates are from the Mexican market in San Antonio and the bamboo flatware I've had for a while. It was a festive dinner and the family enjoyed the touches.
Another quick flashback to my birthday celebration with my friend Betsy (thanks to all the lovely ladies who came to help us celebrate). I had the tablecloth made and used the leaf plates and flower salad plates made by mentally disable clients at a resident home near by. They have a shop and I picked up twelve of each, I adore them.
Party favors were small individual bottles of champagne tied with a bow and straw, oh a made a container from a bath and body works candle, with a animal (mostly horses) spray painted silver and attached to top. Inside I filled with an eos lip balm that I glued rhinestones to and a flamingo pocketbac holder and hand sanitizer from Bath and Body Works. My friends and family were the best, thanks for celebrating with me.

Our Easter table. This year my mom asked if she could take a year off from hosting and I glady offered to host. The placemats were a FIND from Target (4 for $10), I almost screamed in excitement when I found them ( @pollyannapics was with me). I mixed our wedding China (one of two we have) dinner plate with the flower salad plate (used for birthday) and topped it off with our monogrammed bread and butter plate. Not exactly Mrs.Manners approved but I set the table to how I like it.
It's not fancy, we keep it fun. I used my Francis the 1st silver and a silver punch cup with a floral arrangement was placed at each guest place setting. As well as a chocolate bunny and Easter egg.
The day was delightful and I was happy to host.
This week I set the table early for Thursday. I had to, we had a busy Wednesday and I needed the breakfast table to be bright and cheery for Thursday morning and kicking off Pookie's seventeen birthday.  Shown is our wedding China (one set anyway) from eighteen years ago. It's by Nikko and the pattern is Empress. All of the plates in the set are scalloped and details of tiny pink flowers and bands of gold make each piece perfect. I used the bamboo flatware, because it's my favorite (one day I'll have gold bamboo flatware). The bowl on top is old and nothing special but  it pink and green and I like it. The seersucker napkins were found on Etsy and another woman on Etsy monogrammed them. The tablecloth was made out of Lilly fabric (or a once sheet, I can't remember). The centerpiece was pink roses in a silver vessel and two Staffordshire dogs sat at each side of the roses.
Pookie's birthday table top! The runner is wrapping paper (I seem to use wrapping paper like that frequently). The dinner plate is monogrammed in silver with our initial (from Horchow). The salad plates and napkins are Lilly Pulitzer. The flatware is an acrylic bamboo (more bamboo, it's an addiction/collection). The two little vases are Juliska and I used one of my MacKenzie-Childs champagne flutes for the other vase.
Keeping it cute and on the preppy side, I found a huge elephant piñata for the centerpiece and I image it will hang out in Pookie's room for a bit after her birthday.
The before pic at the grocery (you know my favorite place...and by favorite I mean I'd rather clean toilets then go there). But I do like to cook, just have a weird issue with grocery store (that's a whole another blog post).
The bar cart - full of adult beverages and child-friendly ones too. I kept with the pink and green theme and opened up these cocktail napkins I found while wondering the fields during the antique show in Round Top (junk month). I love the gold foiled pineapple (the are by Slant).
Today we celebrate our girl, she arrived five plus weeks early seventeen years ago. From the moment she could speak it was always horses, we didn't have baby dolls and Barbie's. It's always been a horse, from stuffed animal horses to Breyers. You've never had a fear, you've been kicked, thrown and fallen and have suffered loss but you've never given up or considered not going back to the barn. Your horses love you as much as I know you love them (you can see it). Today we celebrate you and I can not tell you enough how lucky I am to call you my daughter. You are the most dedicated, hardworking, brave, intelligent and loving young woman. You have qualities that I could only dream of, your future is huge!!!
Have the Happiest of Birthdays. I love you and could not be prouder of the young woman you have become.
Happy 17th Birthday Pookie

Love,
Mom

38. Go any where without earrings (I keep a spare pair in my car and purse). I've bought earrings at a gas station once because I forgot to put some on. That's when I put extra simple studs in my car.
39. Take generic allergy meds - I break out in a rash
40. Keep white jeans clean (but I still wear all the time)
Silly but fun post. I am full of energy and love that I have some creativity. I do what I need to and throw in some fun and fluff along the way.

Thanks for reading, the list could go on and on of what I can not do. What's on your list??

Love and Limes,

Recently my son had a friend over and he saw this notepad sitting in my kitchen. Without a thought my son said, "it's my moms catch phrase." I about fell over...not really, it's true.
When I was kid I remember my brother (7 years younger than myself) saying to my mom, "when I get older my favorite word is going to be the $hit word." It was and is extremely laughable. I'd love to say I never use colorful words or phrases (a.k.a. Potty words) but who are we kidding.
Some days are worse than others and I can go weeks and weeks be almost a Nun with my vocabulary then I split hell wide open with a f-BOMB! Ugh!!! I'm not perfect and it happens, judge away, I am full of imperfections and faults. I'm now nor have I ever claimed to be Mrs.Manners.

I'm working on it, until then I'm going to use my "Oh $hit" notepad.

Love and limes,
Tikaa
